Some people hesitate to see their North Hills chiropractor because they don’t know what goes on at a chiropractor’s office and they don’t know what to expect. In our last blog, we spoke about some of the main things that you can expect when you visit a chiropractor and how we’ll evaluate you and your spine to create a treatment for you. But what is the typical treatment?
Everyone is different and we can’t say that these treatments will be what we suggest for you. However, the typical treatments that one can expect at a chiropractor’s office are as follows:
Spinal adjustments are normally the central part of chiropractic treatment. This is a therapeutic manipulation that uses controlled force, leverage, direction, amplitude, and velocity directed at specific joints. Basically, an adjustment involves a lot more than simply opening up a joint! Most often, we will make these adjustments to the spine but we also may adjust other joints like the ankle, knee, elbow, wrist, or shoulder so that we can restore structural alignment or to improve joint functionality. It’s important to remember that proper structure is necessary for proper function and proper functioning of your extremities is crucial to a healthy daily life.
When you’re being treated for neck or back pain, you will most likely receive a series of adjustments that are separated by either a day or a few days to gradually reduce the irritation and pain and improve daily life. This can go on for several weeks, usually diminishing in frequency. These adjustments will likely be accompanied by other types of therapies like the application of heat or ice, electrical stimulation, shoe supports, rehabilitative exercise, nutritional guidance, weight loss, and other lifestyle factors, as well as nutritional supplements.
