Do you sit hunched over and stare at a computer all day ? Maybe for work, you drive all day? All of these things involve head positions and headaches. It’s no coincidence that people that work these types of jobs experience headaches on a routine basis. Here at North Hills Chiropractic, we get quite a few patients coming through our doors who complain about this exact same thing and we totally understand. It’s easy to fall into bad posture when you’re sitting in the same position for hours and hours a day, everyday.
It’s important that your head and neck are always aligned with your shoulders. The average head only weighs about 10-12 lbs, but when you move your head forward and out of line with your shoulders, it can feel like it weighs upwards to 30 lbs. When you neck and shoulder muscles have to work this much harder to keep your head up all day, you get the tightness that you often feel in your shoulders after a long day at work; that same tightness that causes headaches. This type of posture also forces the muscles at the base of your skull and at the top of your neck to be in a constant state of contraction. This can cause nasty headaches that start at the base of your skull and radiate into your temples, forehead, and eyes.
Bad posture is bad for you and it hurts you in more ways than most people understand. Come visit us today for an evaluation!
